I grew up amidst the amazing beauty of the San Francisco bay area. But the Hudson Valley where I now reside provides equally inspiring locations such as those painted by the original Hudson River artists. Whether portrait or landscape, I prefer to work from life. Paintings are more alive when painted on location. Perhaps the joy of the experience is somehow transferred to the painting.

The painting shown here is "Bradish Dance" one of my "sequence paintings" where I use multiple images to indicate the motion of a scene. In this case, my son was playing with the sheets drying on the line in our backyard.

Medium: Original Colour Linocut , Mougins - 1st March 1962, , on velin Arches paper, in four colours ( Caramel clair, marron clair, marron, noire - made in that order) , signed by the artist in pencil. 3rd and definitive state. Dedicated “pour Ynes” in pencil

Edition: There were Three states altogether for this work:

State 1 : The clear definitive maroon - State 2 : The Maroon definitive

State 3 (Our work) - The black definitive. This was published by Louis Leiris in an edition of 50 signed and numbered proofs. Baer records that a further 25 proofs, on the same paper, were reserved for the artist. Of these 8 were provided for the Gallerie Louis Leiris and about 15 went to the artist. No doubt our piece is one of those. It is further recorded that there is a proof dedicated to Picasso’s secretary, the poet Sabartes in the Barcelona Picasso Museum.

Provenance: In 1936 Dora Maar was with Picasso in Mouguins accompanied also by Man Ray and Paul Eluard. They met charming two Italian sisters who were working in the Hotel Vaste Horizon. The two were employed by Picasso as cook and chamber maid. Little by little these two girls began to take a prominent part in the life of the painter. Innes married in 1942 with Gustave Sassier and lived , together with their son Gerard, born in 1946, in a small apartment close to the painter at 7 rue des Grandes Augustines in Paris. Innes became a constant companion and friend of the artist. When Picasso moved to the South of France in 1955 Innes looked after the property owned by the artist in Paris and would come down to the south during the school holidays. When the painter sold his Paris apartment in 1967 Innes made the necessary arrangements for the move on Picasso’s behalf. Her son, Gerard, says today that the huge house was “un musee incroyable” with such a huge quantity of works by Picasso. Innes moved to Mougins where she took the job as chauffeur until 1970 when she left the artists service. It can be seen that the relationship lasted from 1937 until 1970. Sometimes Innes served as a model and was no doubt privy to all the affairs of Picasso during this period with Dora Maar, Francoise Gillot, Marie-Therese Waller and Jacqueline Picasso. Picasso had two great confidants in his life during this turbulent period : Innes Sassier and Jaume Sabartes. During the time of her acquaintanceship with Picasso Innes was given a number of works consisting of graphics, livres illustrees, autographs, letters and drawings made by the artist for her son Gerard Sassier. We ourselves were successful in buying some drawings from the collection of Gerald Sassier in recent Paris auctions. In Spanish “Innes” would be “Ynes”. Looking at the Artcuriel catalogue in which the Gerard and Ines Sassier collection was sold there are numerous examples of dedications to “Ynes” written by the artist in exactly the same style. This, therefore, has to be the source of our work. Picasso was seldom confident with the French language preferring his native Spanish.

Note: The Linoleum for this still exists today. It took the artist and his printer, Arnera, about 10 days to complete this work and it’s edition The carving was probably started about 1st March 1962 and certainly finished no later then 10th March 1962. The edition was finished on the 10th March. While working on this Linocut reduction, working from a single block for all colours, Picasso was working on no less then 8 additional Linocuts. This process shows a degree of confidence in his abilities barely conceivable. At this date Picasso was 81 years old and that, using this method, he was unable to undo any mistake that might have occurred whilst cutting into the matrix.

Hi everyone, it’s December 31 and that marks the end of the free listings on http://professionalfineartnetwork.blogspot.com/. You can still get in under the wire and be grandfathered into the new site by paying your dues today! For a listing with your name, specialty and URL it’s only 10.00. For a jpg of your work and a short profile, it’s 25.00 (that includes the name, specialty and URL listing too). Some consultants and fabricators have even donated more which is great! Since you’ll be an “alpha member”, once you join that’s it. You will not be charged a yearly subscription fee, but new members after January 1, 2010 will be charged.

The new site is coming along and as promised will be done sometime in January 2010. You’ll be able to upload your own profiles, we’ll have discussion boards, and I’m in negotiations with an expert in public art to have an inaugural teleconference about how to obtain commissioned projects. It will also have a section with articles about a featured member of the month, and I will be posting job opportunities for artists. We have many artists, fabricators, art coaches, galleries and art consultants already onboard. In addition, we’ll have searchable categories, so consultants can easily find what they’re looking for. In the future, I hope to get sponsors from suppliers who will offer discounts to members.

The common thread throughout all of my work as photographer is that I consider myself a storyteller. Until now, I have used a photojournalistic approach where multiple images seen together tell one complete story. In contrast, the images in the Truths, Lies and Legends collection each tell a distinct visual story—as well as written stories—of their own. The foundation for each image is a spectacular natural setting. I transform the scene from a still landscape into a stageset by placing something in the frame. Why is a bicycle in the middle of a country road with its wheel spinning under a threatening sky? Is it because little Stevie was riding up and down his driveway one crisp, Autumn Saturday morning, and carelessly abandoned his bike when he saw a huge snapping turtle crossing the road? Or, did a tornado spin the little red bike thousands of feet into the air and drop it harshly onto the pavement five miles away? I include a few story ideas separated by the rejoinder “Or…” which opens the door for viewers to concoct stories of their own. The stories are included in the final piece as type framing each image.

I am a nature and landscape guy! I am a relative newcomer to the Fine Art Nature and Landscape Photography world and have recently received national accolades and awards for my work.

I love capturing vibrant colors in sunrises and sunsets, coastal scenes, forests, textures in nature, the moon, flowing water and waterfalls. My subjects range from beautiful scenics landscapes, water trickling over rocks or just soothing reflections of a sunset on the water. I try to capture the mood of the scene and love how the light interacts with the scene. My “Nature’s Firefall” image ties all of these together – a dramatic waterfall at sunset that looks like molten lava surrounded by the incredible rock textures of El Capitan in Yosemite. Water, rocks, tree bark, leaves….all things in nature have a texture to me.

When I’m at a location, my challenge is capturing how the scene in front of me looks, feels, sounds or smells. Even with today’s equipment, it’s a challenge to recreate what your eyes see. If I’m successful, the photograph will remind me of that place I want to be on a Friday afternoon and one that you or your client will want on your walls. Some recent series of images include "Water, Light and Textures - Scenes from Yosemite", "Rock Textures in Point Lobos" and "Oceanscapes from Australia".

Becky Joy was born and raised outside of Portland, Oregon. Her initial journey into Art Education was self directed and began at a local community college. It wasn't until she moved to Arizona, in 1993, that she started to attend workshops at the famed Scottsdale Artist's School. Here, she received the benefit of a master education in fine art and she knew she was in the perfect place to start her life as a serious Artist. She began to hike and paint in the desert and it is clear that she has adopted Arizona and its special offerings as her subject of choice. From her plein air studies, she creates larger works in the studio.

Becky has been a juried member of Women Artists of the West and the American Academy of Women Artists. She has participated in a show at the Phippen Museum in Prescott, AZ called Painters of the American Desert. In 2001 she was chosen as the cover and poster artist for Hidden in the Hills Artists Directory. Becky was also featured in "Art of the American West" and was the subject of an article in the Feb 2006 issue of Southwest Art Magazine. My paintings are a blend of the familiar and unfamiliar. They are figurative and focus on the use of colour. Ghostlike figures occupy poses in a relaxed and familiar family tableau. But their relationship to each other is not one of “easy” familiarity. Rather, a strange distance separates them or is implied through a quasi-transparent barrier. The implication is one of being isolated even in the most intimate of domestic settings. Hints of a “closeness at great distance” are of great importance in my paintings.

My textile art is informed by my experiences with nature and the world we live in. I use cotton fabrics that bear the mark of my own hand: dyed, painted, screen printed, monoprinted, stamped, and brushed. These fabrics are assembled and stitched together, then layered and extensively quilted.
This process results in a striking texture that adds another layer of interest and visual enhancement.

I create my art using found objects as a printing medium. I get a great sense of satisfaction knowing that I am re-appropriating found objects, making my small contribution to stopping the waste running amok in our world. I use acrylics, oils, house paints, printing inks, watercolors, and pencils. I also employ multiple techniques, including brushing, sponging, printing, rubbings, reliefs, airbrushing, and just plain pouring it on. My objects have their own peculiar shapes, and I play with them to create contrast in line and forms.

In my current project, I add vivid airbrushed and brushed colors to the work so the printed objects appear to crawl out of the compositions. My work reflects my perspective of wonder, my desire to feel the solidity of objects, and my aspiration to create something beautiful – all qualities I never had the pleasure of experiencing in my years spent homeless on the streets of San Francisco. My art has been my mode of self-expression and mental health for more than 30 years – hence, its name, Radical Relief.

Ten years of historic painting added to eighteen years of book illustrating have given me the ability to problem solve and create historically accurate oil paintings.My work is focused on 18th century American history - the American Revolutionary War, French and Indian War,Colonial America,woodland Indians and famous figures such as Washington and Jefferson.Research and first person descriptive accounts are the building blocks to an historic painting, but it is the emotions of these people which make the connection to the viewer.

It’s tempting to say, “I just paint, man”.

I do believe that painting is it’s own pictorial fact.
Solely reproducing what one sees is just fooling oneself of the importance of an anecdotal fact.
We frequently inflate the most limited of anecdotal facts.
So liberating is de Kooning saying, “I see something I like, and it becomes my content.”
As well, can we not then hear something, a lyric, a yell, a crash?
Smell something?
Something one doesn’t like? A memory?
Is that not my content if I wish?

I am very much interested in images which I perceive and observe in the real world in various forms and shapes and which are therefore timeless in a way. I mean the forms like the circle, the square, the parabola, etc. My art expresses the origin of the meaning of these images because they are inextricably bound up with what they represent.

In general I prefer quick media which allow me to concentrate on exploring my themes. Drawing is therefore my favourite medium. My artistic work, which is abstract, is strongly directed at presenting my ideas. These ideas are also abstract and they concern the form, the line and space as autonomous visual elements. The main issue is how they relate to each other. The material is the means to express these ideas and this relationship.

Meetal is the Maiden Name of Israeli born Julie M Berman. It means “Arising from the morning dew.” A child of Holocaust survivors, she moved to the United States with her parents at the age of 12. I`m primarily autodidactic (self-taught), although a have participated in some traditional art education in Copenhagen.

I have been compelled to paint and draw since childhood.

For many years I worked as AD, within the commercial side of the visual arts, I found this to be a monotonous grind, and the pressures of the corporate world unbearable, and left this work to pursue a more creative and rewarding path .

I participated in a county project, to help troubled youth, during this time I produced hundreds of different shapes in our workshop, all diverse and completely random, each shape was a one off, totally unique, something I find curious and captivating.

Alongside the youth project I took many walks on the beach, and gathered washed up storm debris. I was inspired by the forms and randomness of the objects, and started to draw, paint and carve on the various driftwood and debris, creating many of the pieces exhibited here.

Together with shape, form, texture and randomness, my work is an on-going venture into the uniqueness and wonderment of nature. With the beguiling found objects she presents to me, this is an ongoing subject and theme I intend to continue to explore…

By order of an inner driving force, something I cannot fight, I am a conceptual fine artist. I paint, draw and print about psychological disorders, anxiety, phobias, depression, focused on OCD—obsessive compulsive disorder.

Why paint about these mental disorders? Because I find them profoundly interesting! And why wouldn't I? For the mind controls every aspect of our bodies and without healthy minds... we are a bit screwed.
I create my fine art in a studio that's located in the land where the Amish buggies roll. I find plenty of inspiration to create art and paint from the cow filled, countryside pastures of Lancaster County, PA. Unlike most fine artists that thrive on life in the city, the open landscapes and fresh air of Pennsylvania Dutch country keep me the most prolific.

I am an oil painter, oil on canvas, with 20 years experience. My specialty is portrait painting, particularly pet portraits (mainly dogs). My passion for painting is especially acute when I am painting a portrait of loved pet or child when I can feel the personality coming through me and onto the canvas (corny, but true). I paint from photos, often taking with my high res. camera, and I very often merge aspects from two or more photos to achieve the desired composition. I have seen tears in the eyes of clients when they see the finished portrait, especially when it's a portrait of a pet that's passed.

I am a watercolor artist from New Hampshire with a flair for the whimsical and a love of bright colors. I like to paint from my imagination and not real life, and usually develop the entire painting in my head before beginning. The paintings are almost always on a full sheet of paper (22X30), many with painted borders which compliment the subject. I began quilting almost by accident, about 3 years ago, although I have been an artist working in other media for the last 20 years or more. I took an on-line class, something I had never done before, with Susan Sorrell, who makes creative, wonderful, brightly colored small quilts. I have made 50-60 small quilts as a result. They are bright and colorful, with beads, all sewn and quilted by hand, with whimsical titles like Alligator Lips, Cat Thinks He’s a Dog, Alien Eyes, Bad Hair Day.

I get ideas from all kinds of things around me, art in museums, in magazines, looking at things on-line, trees, flowers, animals, even in movies, where I will pull out a sketch book in the dark and try to scribble down an idea.

My first machine-sewn quilt was based on an encaustic painting I saw which was in bright blues. This quilt was so successful that it inspired a series which I call Ventanas, Spanish for windows, because that is what they make me think of. I use dozens of fabrics for these quilts. Many of the fabrics have “critters” on them: lizards, butterflies, ladybugs, cats, dogs, pigs.

Alessandro Andreuccetti is born in San Gimignano, Italy, July 28, 1955. He studied art and architecture in Florence and, after graduating, started his job in 1980 as a graphic designer.

From 1978 he was interested in watermedia painting, fascinated with this technique and the support of hand-worked paper. He was showing paintings in many italian towns. On 1983 he won the 1th prize at “Concorso nazionale del fumetto e del Fantastico di Prato” and he started to collaborate with Sergio Micheli of University of Siena and the editor Nerbini of Florence to realize comics and illustrations. He published two graphic novels and many illustrations for various books. In parallel with the graphical activity, it continues its artistic surveying searching in the landscapes and the figures taken to model the forms and the colours to amalgamate in new perfectly independent compositions, as it has had way to emphasize the university professor Anna Benvenuti: “…Therefore its paint-brush leads to us, onlooker, between the warm ways of Saint Gimignano, red of history or nocturnal of china, tclose to the forests to butterfly leaves, in the bluesy stormy or the green infinite of the young grain fields. With its chromatics it succeeds, much better than how much it is not possible to the historian, to evoke the thickness of the time inborn in the things, their meant ucronic of compendium.

Therefore thanks to the light, before between ‘pieces’ of the creation - also of that artistic one - it expresses the immaterial substance of the duration, the patina of becoming, the essence of the generations that that time they have crossed and lived covering the same places and watching the same colours.”

My textile artwork covers a wide range of designs from art deco to abstract to representational needlework. The pieces compromising this body of work represent pieces that are more manageable sizes than some of the work I produce for commissions.

I do not repeat work so each piece is unique onto itself and not available in editions. I do my own design work, construction of each piece from either commercial fabrics or my own hand dyed fabrics. All of the handwork is done by myself including the hand appliqué, hand quilting, hand made bias tape, and hand bound finishing.

Each piece is designed from the center out with just a general idea and the process dictates where the piece ends up. The hand stitching on the wall art give it the visual texture each piece needs to really bring out the shadowing on these works.

Each artwork can be easily mounted using a variety of museum hanging systems, as well as directly on the wall with 2 simple screws or nails. This is all part of the design process for the back of each piece, so that artwork is manageable for all to display.

I create the entire structure of my art pieces. My latest work contains digital printing. Digital Fiber! This involves using my own photographs, digitally manipulated in an artistic manner, printed on prepared ink jet fabrics and various textile substrates. Born in 1952, Hugo Prado grew up in Miraflores a West Coast surfing suburb of Lima-Peru, South America. His main passion, other than car races and surfing, was drawing. Hugo's father, Carlos, was a race car driver and responsible for importing vehicles, such as VOLVO's, BMW's, FIAT's, etc. into Peru. "I was the most popular kid in our neighborhood”, Hugo comments, “since my father Carlos would bring a different car from work everyday"

After working as an illustrator in advertising, Hugo realized his life-long dream in 1989, when he decided to leave commercial art to become a full-time automotive artist and founded AutomotiveFineArt.com working in acrylic and watercolors sprayed through the airbrush, Hugo also uses technical pens to bring sharp detail to the final product. The human element has been studied and immortalized for centuries: cave paintings, the sculptures of the classics, and captured in poetry. Humans, it seems, have an inherent quest to identify and explore a basic question: What does it mean to be human?

In my sculptures, I search for this answer. I choose to combine human form with natural substances in order to gain a better understanding of our role on this planet. My medium, wood, is an innate part of this earth and who we all are as people. However, wood is also rich and varied…creating a natural paradigm of originality and creativity.

Used for fire and warmth, used for shelter and used as a tool for sustenance, wood is intrinsically liked to the timeline of human evolution. By combining wood with the human form, I capture this everlasting symbiotic relationship in my sculptures.

Each piece of wood was chosen for the inherent character it represents. Each log…tree….branch….knot brought out a specific form. No human models were used in these pieces; I allowed the wood instead to guide the shape and provide inspiration.

The wood I use comes from Florida storm damage. Creating beauty from destruction is a paradox I find very moving and intriguing. Storms bring so much sadness and devastation each year. I try to make something positive out of the wreckage.

I make contemporary landscape quilts that rely on color, fabric and the traditions of quilt making to create abstract interpretations of time and place. Much of my work is based on the prairies of Illinois where I was raised and the hills of western Massachusetts where I now live.
